Run to Me: Chapter 52

Robyn

He really doesn’t like leaving you, huh?” Izzy says once the door closes behind Enzo.

And considering she just had to put a gun to his head to get him out of the door, I think she already has her answer. It’s a good thing I’m used to this family’s antics by now, or I’d be running away screaming.

“Doesn’t like leaving me? More like doesn’t like letting me out of his sight,” I say, though I stare at the door, internally screaming for him to come back.

I may not like how much he’s been hovering over me constantly, but I’ll admit I don’t really like being away from him either. After everything that’s happened, I feel safer when he’s around.

“That right there,” Izzy says and waves towards my face, “ain’t healthy. We need to get you out of this goddamn apartment for a little while. You can’t keep yourself trapped in here with only your husband around for company. You need a distraction, so get dressed, sis. I’d rather take you shooting or something equally fun, but you went and got yourself knocked up, so we’ll have to settle for something a little less exciting. Good thing I have an errand to run, chop chop.

I know from experience that these Romano’s won’t take no for an answer, and I guess it’ll do me good to get out of the apartment for a little while. With a huff, I leave and go and get ready before meeting her back in the living room.

“Ready?” she asks.

“Yup.”

“Great. Let’s go.”

Izzy doesn’t bother to tell me where we’re going, just drags me into a car with a driver waiting.

Honestly, it still feels so freaking weird having a driver. I’m used to walking, taking a cab or the subway, not having a personal chauffeur.

She lounges in the seat next to mine, typing on her phone with her lips curling up into a small smirk, no doubt texting Luca. I’m about to ask her again where we’re going when the car pulls to a stop outside of a building with the name Cane Security on the side.

Guess we’re going to see Alec.

The driver gets out and opens our door, offering the both of us a hand to get out. Izzy declines but I accept his help. I may only be around four months pregnant, but sometime in the last few weeks I seemed to have popped, and now my back is killing me as well as having mildly bruised ribs.

We take an elevator up to the top floor—which is a stark difference to the lobby. The entrance is modern and sleek, with black, white and grey covering the walls, desk and floor. Not another color in sight.

Izzy bypasses the receptionist, much to her dismay as she calls after us. I shoot her an apologetic smile before scurrying after my sister-in-law as she leads us into a corner office.

“Good afternoon, Mr Cane,” Izzy says sweetly as we head inside to find a scowling Alec sitting behind his desk. He looks between us and his lips twitch as he tries to maintain his sour demeanor before he gives up all together.

“Ladies,” he says with a grin. “To what do I owe the pleasure? And are you here without your shadows? Because you know they’ll be itching to behead me if they find you here.” He rolls his eyes, clearly not too bothered about Luca and Enzo finding us here.

Izzy takes a seat opposite and lifts her feet onto the desk while I sit on the armchair adjacent to the desk.

“I’ve been testing you,” Izzy says with a smirk and Alec huffs out a breath. She digs into her bag and pulls out a pile of papers.

“My, my, Alec. You do search for some filthy stuff on that computer of yours.”

He grabs the papers and starts flicking through the pile, his jaw ticking as he does so.

“Why the fuck do you have my porn search history?” he asks, and I choke on a laugh as Izzy inspects her nails.

“I was bored,” she deadpans. “You need better software so I’m here to help you,” she says sweetly while Alecs hands tighten around the pages. “You need someone good with computers to improve your software. No worries, I won’t charge you.”

“I’m confused, shouldn’t you have better security on your computer since you literally work in security?” I muse aloud.

Surely, he would be good at this shit, right?

Izzy barks out a laugh while he glares at me. “What did she promise you to get you to say that?”

She tuts before turning to me. “Trust me, Alec is good at what he does. If it was anyone other than me trying to access his files, they’d be shit out of luck, I’m just that good.”

He rolls his eyes once again before muttering, “Why did I agree to be your bestie?

“You’re pregnant, that means we probably need to feed you, right?” he asks me before turning to Izzy. “We need to feed her.”

Alec sends a text to his assistant to bring us some lunch, and it isn’t long before she’s bringing us a whole buffet of different foods since he wasn’t specific, and we sit and eat and chat for most of the afternoon.

Alec and Izzy seem to have a close relationship, and I learn that they’ve been working together for the past two and a half years. Although Alec had no idea who Izzy actually was until she was kidnapped by her father because she worked anonymously online. Other than his actual security business, they both run a site to help stop human trafficking, and Alec has some sort of mercenary business that helps take trafficking rings down.

You know, totally normal everyday stuff.

The whole afternoon makes me feel better, to be out of the apartment where I was trapped in my own head. I was dreading leaving the house, but I actually have fun sitting and watching the both of them tease each other.

Izzy’s lying on the couch opposite me while Alec lounges back in his chair with his tie undone and feet resting on his desk while we murmur to each other, wondering when the two Romano men will barge in as we hear a commotion outside the door.

Guess that answers that question.

Alec had told his receptionist that we weren’t to be disturbed when she dropped the food off for us, so I’m sure she’s trying her hardest to keep them out. Of course, it’s only seconds before the door swings open and the two hulking figures enter the room.

“Angel,” Enzo says at the same time as Luca growls, “Mia Regina.”

“Fucking cutesy nicknames,” Alec mutters under his breath, just loud enough for me to hear him and I smother a snicker behind a cough.

“Tryna move in on our wives, Cane?” Enzo asks, though his tone is teasing.

“Oh, sure,” Alec responds dryly, “I’m just dying for a committed, monogamous relationship. Sign me the fuck up and remove my balls while you’re at it.”

Enzo glares at him before turning to me.

“Can we please go home?” he whines.

Guess we’re going home.

We’re barely though the door of our apartment when Enzo gently pushes me against the wall and devours my mouth with his.

I’m not sure if he’s doing this because he needs me, or because he doesn’t want me to ask how today went, but I’m fine with it either way.

I’d much rather have him like this than hear the details of him getting rid of my brother, since I already know from Izzy that he sent Lia someplace she’ll “never come back from.” I’d rather not know the details of how my only living blood relative died, so I’ll go along with whatever he wants.

He rips his mouth from mine, panting. “If you’re well enough to spend the day out of the apartment with Izzy and that asshole Alec, then you’re sure as fuck well enough for me to fuck you.”

I whimper as his hands roam my body, from my neck down my arms until he reaches the back of my thighs and lifts me up. I wrap my legs around his waist and sling my arms around his shoulders as he carries me through the apartment.

The penthouse apartment. Whilst I was in hospital, Enzo had his men move all of our things into here because this place has better security, and I think the thought of me not having enough guards and security measures in place was going to give him a damn aneurism, so I didn’t even bother trying to fight him on it.

We reach the bedroom, and he puts me down long enough to strip us both of our clothes before picking me back up and walking into the bathroom. He reaches into the shower and turns on the water, holding his hand out until he deems the water warm enough before stepping in, never letting me go in the process.

“I missed you today,” he murmurs as he gently pushes me against the wall and reaches up to adjust the shower head, making it so the water is hitting my front and so I don’t feel a chill.

His mouth attacks mine in a heated kiss, completely at odds to the way he’s holding me. He devours me like I’m his last meal while his hands creep up my body. His touch light as a feather as though I’m made of glass that will shatter any second.

“I won’t break, Enzo. I want you, need you, all of you. Please,” I whimper the last word and whatever tether that was holding him back seems to snap as he grips my hips and grinds his hard length against my center.

“Just remember you asked for it, angel.”
