Run to Me: Chapter 46

Robyn

The room is dark when I wake up again. I’m not sure how many times I’ve come in and out of consciousness.

At one point, blackout blinds were drawn over the window, so I have no concept of time. Though there’s a small lamp resting on the floor in the corner of the room so I can still see my surroundings.

It feels like I’ve been here forever, and I still haven’t seen a single soul. Though someone has definitely been slipping in and out while I was sleeping because there were a couple of times I woke up and there was a tray resting next to me with a bottle that only contained a few sips worth of water and small rations of food.

My head throbs from the drugs, or maybe dehydration? I don’t know anymore.

My body aches from lying on the hard floor for so long and from being chained to the wall.

“Hello?” I croak, sick and freaking tired of not knowing where I am or why I’m here.

I figured I’d be terrified in a situation like this—don’t get me wrong, I am scared—but I know that Enzo and the rest of the family will be doing everything they can to bring me home.

That’s the thought that brings me a blanket of calm, that makes my heart rate settle and almost makes my worries disappear.

I’m not naïve, I know this could end horribly. I know I could very well die in this room and my husband could never find me. But we’re talking about Enzo Romano, and the rest of the Romano family. The most ruthless, unhinged and dangerous family in the state, and I’m now one of them. They have an endless supply of resources, and I’m choosing to put my hope in them.

I just hope that I make it out of this some-what okay, and that my baby survives this too.

The thunder of footsteps sounding for the first time since I’ve been here have me backing up against the wall as my eyes fixate on the door. The handle rattles as it opens, and my pulse kicks up.

“Finally awake, angel. Guess we have some catching up to do, huh?”

A gasp gets caught in my throat as they step into the room, and I see the face that matches the familiar voice.

“You.”
